Beijing, 30 December 2022 (GNP): The People’s Republic of China has appointed Qin Gang, the current Ambassador of China to the US, as its new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
China Central Television, the state broadcaster, released the information on Friday. Wang Yi is going to be replaced by Ambassador Qin Gang. Prior to this, Qin had been representing China as the US ambassador since July 2021.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Hua Chunying, tweeted the news and expressed her congratulations to the new foreign minister.
She tweeted, “Congratulations to H.E. Qin Gang for his appointment as China’s new Foreign Minister! Looking forward to a splendid new chapter in China’s diplomacy.”

While Wang Yi was chosen in October to the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party. He’s expected to assume more accountability for the nation’s foreign policy.
The fact that Wang Yi has been the nation’s Foreign Minister since 2013 is important to remember. Both were elected to the 205-member Central Committee of the Communist Party, the body in charge of establishing governmental policy, in October.
Qin, who is currently the front-runner in the Chinese Foreign Ministry, has previously held a number of roles. He was the Ministry’s Spokesperson and had a position in the Chinese Embassy in Britain.
From 2014 to 2018, Qin served as the reliable assistant to President Xi Jinping as well as the Chief Protocol Officer.
He was China’s 11th Ambassador to the US for 17 months, amid the most tumultuous period of ties between the two nations. He will now leave Washington and return to Beijing to take on the role of Foreign Minister.
