China sends condolences over Peshawar terrorist attack

Beijing, 1 February 2023 (GNP): In response to the devastating terrorist attack in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Wednesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping issued a letter of grief to his colleague Arif Alvi.

In his statement, Xi stated that on behalf of the Chinese government and people, he would like to express heartfelt condolences for the deaths and extend sincere sympathy to the injured and the bereaved families in connection with the serious terrorist assault in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Xi emphasized that China opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns the occurrence and that China will continue to firmly support Pakistan’s efforts to advance its national counterterrorism action plan, preserve social stability, and ensure the protection of its citizens.

China, according to Xi, is prepared to advance its anti-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan and cooperate with it to uphold peace and security in the area as well as around the world.

Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, received a condolence message from Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on January 30, as well.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson also shared views on this tragic incident and said, “China is against all forms of terrorism and we firmly support Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism, defend national stability, and protect people’s lives and safety.”

She also said, “We (China) are shocked by the incident and strongly condemn this attack. We mourn deeply for the victims and offer our heartfelt sympathy to the injured and the families who have lost loved ones.”
