Celebration Ceremony of Tanzanian 60th Independence day

Dodoma, 11 December 2021 (GNP/ TDI): Tanzania celebrated its 60th Independence day on 9th December 2021. The celebration ceremony was held in Uhuru Gardens Dar es Salam, Tanzania. The country got independence in 1961 from British rule.

Several high officials, state representatives, high commissioners, and ambassadors attended the event. President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Filipe Nyusi (Mozambique), Azali Assomani (Comoros), and DR Congo’s Prime Minister, Sama Luknode, joined the celebration ceremony.

The Tanzanian Armed Forces Head and Chief Justice also joined the ceremony.

Tanzanian President Address to the Nation

President Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed the nation on Wednesday night through television. She elaborated achievements of the Tanzanian nation in 60 years. Likewise, she talked about smooth road networks, secure borders, and Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Tanzania. Standard Guage Railway project connects Tanzania with neighboring countries and enhances trade & economic activity.

She described the country’s journey from a low-income country to a low-middle income country during the speech. She said, “It is yet a huge challenge to take the country from a lower-middle-income economy to an upper-middle economy and, later to an upper-income economy. However, the ongoing job would catalyse us to reach there.”

Furthermore, she aimed to prepare the new National Development Vision 2025-2050 that gives direction to Tanzania’s economic growth. The priority areas of the vision will be agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and industrial development.

Additionally, President Samia expressed the need to enhance Tanzania Airlines further. She also talked about the diplomatic mission of Tanzania, which has increased in the past 60 years.

Activities in the Ceremony

The ceremony started with the arrival of the Tanzanian President at the ceremony. Trained Guards welcome the Head of State on occasion. Likewise, the participants also chanted the National Anthem of Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC). After the anthem, armed forces gave the Guard of Honour to the Head of the State.

Then, the defense and Security of Tanzania paraded and Salute in respect of the President. Moreover, Tanzanian warplanes flew over the stadium and decorated the sky of Tanzania. It showed the advancement of the Air Force since independence.

The Armed and Security force’s gun march showed the readiness to protect Tanzania’s security and sovereignty. Moreover, there was an exhibition of the military arsenal at the event.
