Bismah made the choice to step down as Captain, after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa, where Pakistan had a dismal tournament, losing three of their four group stage matches.
Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman, Najam Sethi, acknowledged Bismah’s resignation in a tweet and assured fans that she will go on supporting the squad as a regular player and representing her nation with pride.
In June 2022, she broke the previous record and became the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team’s leading run-scorer in both ODI and T20I formats.
Under Bismah’s Captaincy, Pakistan Women’s Team won 16 out of 34 ODIs and 27 out of 62 T20Is. With her left-handed batting and right-arm leg break bowling, Bismah has been an important all-rounder for Pakistan.
In her phenomenal 17-year cricket career, Bismah scored 3110 runs in 124 ODIs with an average of 30.2. Similarly she averages 27.1 runs in T20Is and has scored 2658 runs in 132 games.
