Bilawal Bhutto’s remarks regarding Imran Khan’s arrest

Bilawal warned that Pakistan is “facing a perfect storm” in an interview on The Daily Show with Kal Penn.

Islamabad, 15 March 2023 (GNP): Speaking on the former prime minister’s potential arrest, Bilawal warned that Pakistan is “facing a perfect storm” in an interview on The Daily Show with Kal Penn.

Imran was ordered by the courts to attend and defend himself in the cases brought against him, but “he [Imran] says I’m Imran Khan, and I’m too important, and I’m not going to turn up in court,” the Foreign Minister continued.

He stated that he hails from a family who endured legitimate arrests under military dictatorships, adding that he would never want any politician to go to jail for political purposes.

Bilawal further claimed that the PTI chairman has violated court orders time and time again, adding that “eventually the courts have asked the police to deliver him before the court”.

The head of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) further emphasized the challenges that the nation is presently facing.

In addition to increased partisanship and political division, he added, “we are also experiencing an economic crisis. Political parties or stakeholders aren’t even in a position to gather in a room and debate matters amongst themselves.”

Bilawal continued, “Pakistan has the issue of Imran Khan, who believes the Constitution doesn’t apply to him,” in the midst of all these concurrent crises.

Security Situation:

Bilawal went on to emphasize the threat to national security and the security crisis that the nation is currently experiencing as a result of the fall of the Afghan government and the rise in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

Economic Situation:

Bilawal stated that the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are still underway. He continued by saying that the previous administration “violated the pact, placing Pakistan in an extraordinarily vulnerable economic condition”.

The economic effects of the conflict in Ukraine, the COVID pandemic, catastrophic floods, and security threats, the foreign minister said, have put the economy under tremendous strain and stress.

Floods:

The terrible part is that domestic interest has also moved on, he continued, adding that the foreign media’s attention span is quite short and that it has stopped covering the most recent reports on the catastrophic floods.

He continued, “We’re not talking about the millions of people who are currently in risk; we’re talking about whether Imran Khan is going to be imprisoned or not.

Taliban in Afghanistan:

Regarding the regime change in Afghanistan, Bilawal claimed that although Pakistan had a promising beginning, things are now getting much more challenging due to the condition of women’s education and their right to access education.

“Whatever happens in Afghanistan, Pakistan will be the first to feel the consequences,” the foreign minister continued.

In his concluding message to the Afghan Taliban, the foreign minister requested “let girls learn, guys”.
