Dubai, 5 May 2023 (GNP): Pakistan captain Babar Azam has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 ODI runs. He reached the milestone in his 97th innings and 99th match during the fourth ODI against New Zealand in Karachi on Friday, May 5.
He surpassed the previous record held by South African legend Hashim Amla, who took 101 innings to reach the 5000 ODI runs.

Babar Azam is widely regarded as one of the best batters in the world across formats. He has been the number-one batter on the International Cricket Council’s rankings for ODIs for the last two years. He averages an impressive 60.01 with a strike rate of 89.14 in ODIs, with 17 centuries and 27 half-centuries to his name.

Babar was also the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in the 2019 ODI World Cup. He has won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award in 2021. Also, Babar took out both the major men’s cricket award, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, as well as the Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year in the 2022 ICC Awards.

Babar Azam is currently leading Pakistan team in a limited-over series against New Zealand at home. After a drawn T20I series, Pakistan have clinched the ODI series with a 3-0 lead.
