Islamabad, 26 June 2024, (GNP): Mahmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and the opposition alliance Tahreek-e-Tahafuz Aain Pakistan, has issued a stern warning against being compelled to take their grievances regarding Operation Azm-e-Istehkam to the International Court of Justice.
Speaking at a jirga organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Peshawar, Achakzai underscored the need for decisions in the country to truly reflect the majority will of the people, which he argued is currently not being upheld.
Achakzai recalled how the constitutional amendment to merge FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) was not formally included in Parliament’s agenda when it was presented. He emphasized that achieving peace in the region could attract global tourists, highlighting K-P’s historical significance as a hub of Buddhism and the hospitable nature of its people, which could greatly boost tourism.
He criticized the historical exploitation of Pakistan’s resources, mentioning the extensive railway lines laid, marble extracted from Mohmand, and the rich lands of Waziristan.

He called for ensuring that the benefits of natural resources go to local communities, urging President Zardari to take action in this regard.
Regarding economic matters, Achakzai expressed confidence in their ability to manage IMF loans if given the authority, and proposed negotiations with Afghanistan for electricity and gas supplies to achieve energy self-sufficiency and thereby clear the IMF debt.
Achakzai said that the blessings mentioned in Surah Rehman are present in tribal areas, and asserted that Pashtuns have rightful ownership over these resources. He alleged that military operations in tribal districts are aimed at gaining control over these resources.
Finally, he reaffirmed the Pashtuns’ determination to live in their homeland as free citizens, not as subjugated individuals, emphasizing their resolve never to be defeated on their own land.
