Asad Majeed appointed as Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary

Islamabad, 4 December 2022 (GNP): Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to Belgium, has been named as the country’s foreign secretary.

Asad Majeed, a BS-22 officer of the Foreign Service, served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US under the PTI administration when former PM Imran Khan accused Washington of orchestrating a plot against his government. He also serves as an ambassador to Luxembourg and the European Union.

According to a statement from the Establishment Division, Majeed should be informed that he is the new foreign secretary with immediate effect and until further instructions.

Dr. Asad Majeed Khan, a BS-22 officer of the Foreign Service of Pakistan, is transferred and posted as Secretary Foreign Affairs Division, with immediate effect, until further orders. Dr. Asad Majeed Khan currently serves as Ambassador in the Pakistani Embassy in Belgium, the European Union, and Luxembourg.

When the Foreign Office could not agree on a permanent foreign secretary candidate, Jauhar Saleem, the ambassador to Italy, was appointed as the interim foreign secretary.

In his final official act, the previous foreign secretary Sohail Mehmood picked him.
