Seven barbers shot dead in Gwadar

Gwadar, 9 May 2024, (GNP): Seven individuals were fatally shot as they slept in their homes in the residential area of Balochistan’s port city.

As per SHO Mohsin Ali of the Gwadar Police Station, an unidentified assailants fired shots at a residential area close to the Gwadar Fish Harbour in the Surbandar locality, resulting in seven fatalities and one person sustaining injuries.

The police official mentioned that the deceased and injured individuals were employed at a barbershop in the vicinity and hailed from Khanewal district in Punjab.

The SHO informed the media that both the deceased and the injured person have been transferred to Gwadar Hospital.

This incident occurred just three weeks after unknown assailants fatally shot 11 individuals in two separate terror incidents in Balochistan’s Nushki district.

Nine of the victims, originally from Punjab, were passengers on a bus traveling along the National Highway from Quetta to Taftan when militants intercepted the bus, forced them out, and abducted them.

Despite the police launching a search operation for the abducted individuals, their bodies were tragically discovered under a bridge near a hill, all victims of gunshot wounds.

These men hailed from Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, and Gujranwala areas of Punjab, identified as laborers by Nushki Superintendent of Police (SP) Allah Bukhsh.

The SP further disclosed that six of the victims were from the same village, Chak Fateh Shah in Mandi Bahauddin, and their family members revealed that they had departed for Iraq just three days before Eid.

This grim incident has sent shockwaves through the communities affected and underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the region.

On the same day, two more individuals tragically lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries in another incident within the city.

Likewise, on March 20, security forces promptly intervened and thwarted a potentially devastating attack when a group of armed assailants breached the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) colony.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing numerous explosions following gunfire within the complex, which accommodates various government offices including the passport office and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office.
