PM Shehbaz Sharif vows aid for labours in Pakistan

Islamabad, 2 May 2024, (GNP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of recognizing the contribution of laborers and workers to the national economy, urging affluent individuals, businessmen, investors, and industrialists to prioritize enhancing the welfare of workers.

Speaking to a group of laborers and workers representing various sectors at his residence in observance of International Labour Day, the prime minister acknowledged the challenging economic conditions but expressed determination to improve them through united efforts and sincerity.

He expressed confidence that Pakistan would soon emerge as a strong nation through the implementation of a just system and the dedicated efforts of both employers and employees, including workers.

Prime minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to implement significant changes in the national economy and recover billions of rupees lost to corruption.

Speaking about his recent visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he mentioned that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other leaders expressed their desire to see Pakistan progressing on the path of development.

He mentioned that a delegation of Saudi business leaders and investors would soon visit Pakistan, which would boost business activities and create job opportunities in the country.

He also stated that in the upcoming fiscal budget, they would endeavor to provide additional relief to the labor class.

Encouraging business people and the affluent class, the prime minister urged them to extend their vision beyond their personal interests and consider investing in education and health projects for underprivileged communities, akin to initiatives seen in developed nations.

He reiterated their commitment to combatting corruption and assured that with the combined efforts of all government organs and state institutions, Pakistan would establish a respected position among the community of nations.

While acknowledging the reduction in petroleum prices, he noted that it couldn’t offset the daily cost increases.

He empathized with the labor class, who had to manage expenses such as education for their children, healthcare for their parents, and other daily necessities, often living from paycheck to paycheck.

Prime minister stressed the importance of bridging the gap between the wealthy and the impoverished, citing the teachings of the Holy Quran and the messages of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).

He shared his personal connection to the labor community, recalling that his father, who initially studied in Amritsar, later settled in Lahore and worked in a steel factory alongside his brothers.

Finally, he warmly welcomed workers and laborers to his residence, expressing joy in hosting them at the late Mian Muhammad Sharif’s residence.

Previously, Chairman of the PM Youth Programme, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, underscored the personal loan scheme aimed at assisting the deserving children of workers.

He also noted initiatives undertaken during the prime minister’s tenure as chief minister of Punjab, such as the establishment of Danish schools and Educational Endowment Funds.
