Kohistan, 30 November, 2023 (GNP): In Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, law enforcement authorities have made arrests related to the murder of a teenage girl.
Mukhtar Ahmed Tanoli, the district police officer of Kohistan, confirmed the arrest of Arsala, the father of the deceased, on charges of his daughter’s murder.
The distressing episode unfolded last week when photographs surfaced on social media showing the teenage girl in the company of a boy, both hailing from Kohistan.
The alarming images led to a tragic turn of events as the girl’s father, along with his brother and two cousins, stand accused of orchestrating her murder.
Prompt action was taken by the police upon receiving information about the incident on November 24.
They swiftly intervened and recovered the girl’s body from her residence in the remote Kolai-Palas district of Kohistan, situated approximately 350 kilometers from Islamabad, the capital city.

The police report indicates that the circulated photos, portraying the girl in a seemingly harmless embrace with a boy, triggered a horrifying response in the conservative and insular region of Kohistan.
This area is known for strictly upholding local traditions through tribal councils, commonly referred to as “jirgas,” which have been reported to issue extreme sentences, including death penalties, against women for perceived transgressions of cultural norms.
