EU provides additional €1 Million in humanitarian aid for Pakistan’s flood victims

Islamabad, 25 September, 2023 (GNP): The European Union (EU) has announced an additional €1 million in humanitarian aid to assist flood victims in Pakistan, where recent floods have impacted around 900,000 people.

The funding will address the immediate needs of vulnerable communities in the provinces of Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), the areas most severely affected by the floods.

Janez Lenarcic, Commissioner for Crisis Management, expressed the EU’s commitment to helping those in need, especially in light of the new rainy season displacing thousands of people in various parts of the country. This additional funding will aid vulnerable communities in their recovery efforts.

The funds will be utilized to provide multi-sectoral humanitarian assistance to both displaced individuals and those who have returned to their homes, despite the widespread damage to houses and critical basic services such as water, sanitation, and health. With the winter season approaching, the focus will be on delivering multi-purpose cash assistance, shelter, and non-food items.

This funding supplement complements the €16.5 million in humanitarian assistance that the EU allocated to Pakistan earlier this year, aimed at aiding vulnerable populations affected by both conflict and climate-induced disasters.

The EU continues to stand by Pakistan in times of crisis, supporting communities as they rebuild their lives and enhance their resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
