Ambassador to Philippines hosted Chairman NDMA

Chairman NDMA was in the Philippines to participate in the 17th Meeting of ADPC’s Regional Consultative Committee (RCC).

Manila, 15 December 2022 (GNP): Ambassador Imtiaz A. Kazi, hosted a dinner for Lt. General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman NDMA, during his visit to Manila. General (R) Dr. Muhammad Al Juhani was invited to the dinner.

Ambassador Imtiaz A. Kazi is a career diplomat from the Pakistan Foreign Office and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Manila, Philippines.

Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, HI (M), has assumed the charge as Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).  He was in the Philippines to participate in the 17th Meeting of ADPC’s Regional Consultative Committee (RCC).

Pakistan’s participation in RCC

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Department of National Defense, the Philippines, and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) collaborated to host the three-day Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting from December 5-7 in Manila, the Philippines.

The meeting had the overarching theme of “Sustainable Resilience through Inclusive Governance, Finance, and Local Action.” The summit was attended by representatives from over 20 organizations and 18 nations.

The ADPC and the Philippine government invited Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, the head of the National Disaster Management Authority, to represent Pakistan in the 17th session of the RCC conference.

Chairman NDMA informed the group of the disastrous nature of the Pakistani people’s experience with the 2022 floods. He stressed that if “Global Climate Goals” are not held to the same standards as the SDGs, they will have an impact on all areas.

He also underlined the necessity for sharing current technologies from rich nations to assist in constructing a scenario-based early warning system in countries like Pakistan, being adversely affected by climate change.

In the session, he emphasized that forecast-based financing could be made possible through global frameworks of cooperation to address the needs of both poverty and disaster.

In order to attract and maintain support for countries like Pakistan, which are severely vulnerable, he also suggested that ADPC develop more action-oriented strategies.

The Chairman also highlighted the critical role that the media can play in educating the public about the impacts of climate change and in providing local communities with information on disaster preparedness and management.
