MD NEECA receives fresh threats over Anti-Corruption actions

ISLAMABAD: Managing Director of the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA), Sardar Moazzam, has once again received threats from unknown individuals. According to close sources, he has been warned of severe consequences. It was revealed that Sardar Moazzam had previously received threats in the past as well. Sources said the first such incident occurred in September 2024, when NEECA initiated departmental action against some of its officials on charges of corruption, negligence, and misconduct.

According to sources, in 2024 departmental action was taken against former Assistant Director Policy Sajjad Hussain, former Director General Munir Ahmed, and Director Zeeshan Ullah. The officials were dismissed from service on charges of working against institutional policy, corruption, and negligence. Sources claim that following this action, relatives of the dismissed officers issued serious threats to MD NEECA Sardar Moazzam.

An FIR regarding the threats was registered on September 13, 2024, at Islamabad’s Secretariat Police Station. The FIR stated that accused Mufti Aqeel ur Rehman Pirzada called MD NEECA and warned him of dire consequences if any action was taken against Sajjad Hussain. According to sources, the accused also used religious references to threaten grave harm, and these threats remain on record.

Mufti Aqeel ur Rehman recorded a threatening video outside the NEECA office, which was later sent to MD NEECA from unknown numbers. The video was also circulated among NEECA board members, officers, and government officials. In the footage, serious threats were issued, and false propaganda against MD NEECA Sardar Moazzam was also propagated.

Sources confirm that the matter has been reported to the concerned authorities for further investigation. This situation has heightened security concerns for the NEECA leadership as well as for the ongoing reform process within the institution.
