Pakistani weightlifter wins Gold Medal in CWG2022

Birmingham, 4 August 2022 (GNP): Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt won a gold medal for Pakistan in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.

In the 109+kg category, Nooh Butt lifted 173kg in snatch while in clean and jerk, he lifted 232kg and set another record. Butt lifted 405 kg in total, which is a record for CWG 2022.

Previously, the athlete won a bronze medal in the 105+ kg category at the 2018 CWG, and in December 2021 he took home a silver medal at the CWG weightlifting competition.

Moreover, it is the second time Pakistan has won the gold medal in CWG’s weightlifting event. In 2006, Shujauddin Malik won the gold medal for Pakistan in the 85kg category.

The nation congratulates the Athlete

Nooh Dastgir Butt was congratulated by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif along with other officials and hundreds of Pakistanis through social media. His win is being celebrated all across Pakistan as it is Pakistan’s maiden Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 event.

Expressing his thoughts after bagging the Gold Medal, he said, “I thank God for winning the medal. I can’t express my feelings; I have been trying to win this game for the last seven years. It was hard work and dedication that made me win this gold. Winning a medal for your country is always a proud moment. And, gold is something special.”

He further said, “It was not easy for me to lift such a heavy weight. But, I pulled off doing it with hard work of 12 to 13 years. I dedicate this gold to my father, who worked for 12 years and helped me reach this stage.”

The Gujranwala-based weightlifter belongs to a family of professional weightlifters. His father, who was also an international weightlifter, trained him at home. He also revealed during his talk that his brother also takes part in this sport.
