ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has express serious concern over the detention of Multan-based journalist Shoaib Iftikhar by the Crime Control Department (CCD). In a joint statement, PFUJ President Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari demanded the immediate release of Shoaib Iftikhar.
“We are appalled by the CCD’s actions, which are a blatant disregard for the rule of law and journalists’ rights,” said Afzal Butt and Arshad Ansari. “If there are any complaints against Shoaib Iftikhar , the proper legal procedures should be followed, and he should be investigated according to the law, rather than being subjected to unlawful detention.”
The PFUJ leaders emphasized that journalists have the right to perform their duties without fear of harassment or intimidation. They warned that such actions would have a chilling effect on the freedom of the press and the ability of journalists to report critically.
