Islamabad, 20 November 2021 (GNP): In order to celebrate the 70 years of bilateral diplomatic relations (1951-2021) between Pakistan and Spain, an event was organised on 19th November 2021, at the iconic Pakistan Monument.

The cultural and culinary event has grasped the attention of diplomatic ambassadors, public officials, foreign and national personalities.

The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, has highlighted that the historic relations between the two states predate the establishment of formal relations.

The Minister also expressed that the significance of Spanish culture has been pinned down by the national poet, Dr. Mohammad Allama Iqbal in his literary work.

In an age of interconnectedness, the minister has shed the light on the importance of public diplomacy and cultural exchange. He stated that the increase in people-to-people contact is of vital importance for the states to collaborate for the extension of bilateral ties.

While recalling his visit to Spain in 2010 and also a recent visit, he expressed his delight over the rapid increase in the relations of the two states due to trade, high-level exchanges and Pakistani Diaspora, around 1,25000 people, which is acting as a bridge of interconnectivity.

The Foreign Minister of Spain, José Manuel Albares has delivered a video message to his counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi and to the entire Pakistani nation on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations between the two states.

While delivering his message, José Manuel Albares has mentioned that Spain was one of the first countries to recognise Pakistan as an independent state. Since 1951, the friendship between both countries and their people has been solely increased.

There are many reasons, therefore, he urged that we should celebrate the cordial relations and the long years of friendship. He also highlighted that Spain and Pakistan have worked together in multilateral dimensions, supporting each other and strengthening together their multilateral system.

He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome that he has received during his first visit to Pakistan and applauded the great support of Pakistan. The foreign minister has shown the utmost desire to further the bilateral ties with Pakistan.

The event was orgainsed by the joint collaboration of the Spanish embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, titled “70 years”, showcased musical performances and other cultural exhibitions.

Among others, a special stamp with the images of Badshahi and Cordoba Mosque was issued to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The relation between the two states is viewed as a matter of regional and global peace.
