Islamabad, 17 October 2021 (GNP/ TDI): The President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi has inaugurated an initiative called ‘Green Presidency Initiative’.

Under this Initiative around 10,000 new trees have been planted in the Aiwan-e-Saddar (the Presidency) and the area around it. This development is marked as Pakistan being the first country to have a presidency running on green energy.

Aiwan-e-Sadr is also the first presidency in the world that has been awarded an international certification of IS0 50001 EnMs.

The initiative has a great potential to cut the expenses spent on energy and can help the government of Pakistan to save around 72.5 million annually. The initiative is not just aimed to cut the energy cost but to also revert to practices of clean energy usage and consumption. The initiative also actively aims to implement advanced solid waste management at the Aiwan-e-Sadr Karachi.

The benefits this initiative will reap include an annual decrease in Co2 emissions. The project took a duration of 7 months to be completed. The project has enabled Aiwan-e-Sadr to run solely on an in-house Green Energy system and subsequently achieve Net-Zero building status.

In the event, he discussed various environment-related predicaments that society faces. The President of Pakistan during the inauguration of the ‘green presidency initiative’ discouraged the habits of flood irrigation in agriculture and wastage of food.

The initiative also aims to establish Miyawaki forest. The establishment of the Miyawaki forest is under process and upon its successful completion would help in reaping a multitude of benefits.

The government of Pakistan is putting serious efforts at every forum nationally and internationally in fighting climate change.
