
Irish Ambassador Calls on NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq
Islamabad : Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq met with the Ambassador of Ireland, Mary O’Neill, at the Parliament House.
Welcoming the Ambassador, NA Speaker underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary linkages between the two countries, stating that such exchanges are vital for fostering bilateral cooperation.
Highlighting the recent devastation caused by floods, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that Pakistan, despite contributing only 0.6 percent to global carbon emissions, is among the most severely affected countries by climate change. He added that the destruction from the ongoing floods has surpassed the devastation caused by the 2022 deluge. “Torrential rains and the release of water from across the border have triggered large-scale destruction in Pakistan” he stated.
NA Speaker emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy can play an instrumental role in addressing shared challenges, particularly in the areas of climate resilience and disaster management.
Ambassador O’Neill expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods and assured the Ireland’s full support for the rehabilitation of the flood-affected population. She also lauded the role of the Pakistani diaspora in Ireland, particularly their notable contributions in the health sector, describing their services as commendable.
