Pakistan Strengthens Global Partnerships for Climate Action with GGGI

Islamabad :   Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with  Laura Jalasjoki, Country Representative of the Global Green Growth Initiative (GGGI).

Jalasjoki briefed the Minister on GGGI’s mission and objectives, noting that the organization now has 51 member countries and works to support inclusive green growth. She underlined GGGI’s role in helping member states transition toward sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient economies.

Dr. Malik emphasized that green growth partnerships must focus on long-term sustainability and measurable impact. He stressed that Pakistan’s priority lies in developing solutions that simultaneously advance adaptation and mitigation goals, particularly in climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture.

Both sides explored the possibilities and potential of carbon markets as a financing tool for sustainable growth. The Minister highlighted the importance of support in bridging the viability gap in carbon market mechanisms, and welcomed GGGI’s technical assistance in this regard.

The discussion also covered avenues of cooperation for strengthening Pakistan’s adaptation and mitigation capacity, with emphasis on agriculture and nature-based solutions. Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with international partners like GGGI to accelerate the transition toward a green and resilient economy.
