Minister Climate Highlights Justice in Climate Action as Chief Guest at Ethiopian Embassy Plantation Drive

Islamabad :  Dr. Musadik Malik underscored that climate action is fundamentally about justice, emphasizing that harming the environment is a form of injustice that nature ultimately responds to. He urged the need for decisive corrective measures before the planet reaches a point of irreparable damage.

The Minister reflected on the generational impact of environmental degradation, stating that by damaging the climate, humanity risks stealing the childhood of future generations, depriving them of the simple wonders of nature such as fireflies or star-filled skies.
Dr. Musadik Malik announced that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination will be launching a nationwide plantation campaign in August, providing free saplings to the public to restore ecosystems and strengthen climate resilience.

He praised Ethiopia’s efforts through the Green Legacy Initiative as a model of endurance and proactive environmental stewardship, noting that Pakistan has valuable lessons to learn from Ethiopia’s approach

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, attended the Ethiopian Embassy’s plantation drive as Chief Guest. The initiative, led by Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, is part of Ethiopia’s flagship Green Legacy Programme. Under this initiative, seedlings will be planted across Pakistan in support of Ethiopia’s goal to plant 700 million trees to restore ecosystems and mitigate carbon emissions.

Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdulla briefed the participants on the Green Legacy Initiative’s contribution to the ecological restoration of Ethiopia and the reduction of greenhouse gases. He stated that Pakistan will not stand alone in the global fight against climate change and invited the Federal Minister to the upcoming Africa Climate Summit to be hosted in Ethiopia in September 2025.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to environmental restoration, large-scale afforestation, and collaborative climate action to safeguard a sustainable and equitable future.
