PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets Belarusian President Lukashenko in Bishkek

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko shakes hands with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Bishkek (GNP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State Summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 1 September 2026.

The meeting brought together the two leaders as they reviewed the trajectory of Pakistan-Belarus relations, with both sides noting steady progress across political, trade, economic, defence, and cultural cooperation. The discussion built on a series of high-level exchanges between the two countries in recent years.

Both leaders recalled President Lukashenko’s visit to Pakistan in November 2024 and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s subsequent visit to Belarus in April 2025 as milestones that had strengthened the bilateral relationship. Building on these exchanges, they agreed to deepen cooperation further in trade, industry, agriculture, information technology, and vocational training, identifying these as priority sectors for the two countries going forward.

As Pakistan prepares to assume the incoming chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President Lukashenko to visit Pakistan next year. The invitation reflected the momentum both sides sought to carry forward from the Bishkek meeting.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevating Pakistan-Belarus ties to new heights, describing the relationship as one built on long-standing friendship.
