Beijing (GNP): Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, as part of a state visit to the country running from August 30 to September 3, China’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the trip will also take Xi to Egypt, combining the SCO summit with a separate bilateral leg of the visit.
At the Bishkek summit, Xi is expected to discuss deeper cooperation among SCO member states alongside major international and regional issues with fellow participating leaders.
During his stay in Kyrgyzstan, he will hold talks with President Sadyr Japarov and take part in a series of official events tied to the summit, continuing China’s pattern of pairing high-level SCO participation with bilateral engagement.

Following the Kyrgyzstan leg, Xi will travel to Egypt, where he is scheduled to meet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss bilateral relations along with international and regional developments of shared concern.
The visit will mark Xi’s first state visit to Egypt in a decade, a gap that underscores the significance Beijing is placing on renewing high-level engagement with Cairo as part of this trip.
Xi’s participation in the Bishkek summit comes as the SCO marks its 25th anniversary, with the organization seeking to expand cooperation across security, trade, connectivity, digital development, and regional stability.
Taken together, the Kyrgyzstan and Egypt legs of the visit reflect Beijing’s parallel focus on strengthening multilateral engagement through the SCO while reinforcing bilateral ties with key partners beyond the bloc.
