Islamabad (GNP): Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with a senior Qatari delegation led by Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani, a prominent businessman and senior member of Qatar’s royal family. Gilani welcomed the delegation and spoke to the long-standing fraternal relationship between the two countries.
Gilani said Pakistan-Qatar ties are grounded in centuries of shared history, culture, faith, and mutually beneficial trade, and called for expanding that relationship further through trade, investment, and socio-political cooperation.
He briefed the delegation on his Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) initiative, held this year under the theme “Peace, Security and Development,” and welcomed the participation of Qatar’s Speaker in the Islamabad conference.
Gilani highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and peace at both regional and global levels, and praised the Makkah Accord for its contribution to unity and stability among Muslim-majority nations.
He also commended Sheikh Nayef’s entrepreneurial leadership and his role in strengthening economic ties between the two countries, and invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan across tourism, agriculture, energy, and other sectors of mutual interest.
Sheikh Nayef thanked Gilani for the hospitality and praised Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace, dialogue, and cooperation. He also welcomed the Makkah Accord, expressing hope it would help strengthen stability and unity across the Muslim world.
The Qatari delegation voiced strong interest in pursuing investment opportunities in Pakistan and stressed the importance of building on bilateral trade and cooperation.

Sheikh Nayef also raised the issue of supporting the Pakistani expatriate community in Qatar.
Advisor to the Senate Chairman and ISC Ambassador Misbah Khar was also present at the meeting.
