
Islamabad ; The Members of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR) called on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and the Secretary General of the National Assembly, Mr. Tahir Hussain, to formally present the report titled “Parliamentary Engagement for National Strategy on Education Emergency.” The delegation was led by Dr. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, Member of the National Assembly and Convenor of PCCR, and composed of MNAs/Members of PCCR; Syed Ali Qaim Gillani, Ms. Asia Naz Tanoli, Mr. Danyal Chaudhry, Ms. Sofia Saeed, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, Syeda Shehla Raza and Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi.
The report is a result of six months of extensive provincial consultations and serves as a strategic framework aligned with the Prime Minister’s declaration of a National Education Emergency. In response to the alarming figure of 26.3 million out-of-school children in Pakistan, the Prime Minister has declared education an emergency priority, calling for urgent and united action across all levels of government and society.
The report outlines actionable legislative priorities, identifies systemic gaps, and provides a roadmap for effective parliamentary engagement to transform Pakistan’s education landscape. During the meeting, the PCCR members briefed the NA Speaker and Secretary General of the NA Secretariat on the key recommendations of the report and emphasized the need for strong legislative ownership and interprovincial coordination to address the crisis.
The Speaker NA and the Secretary General, along with all members present, appreciated the PCCR team for their hard work and commitment to advancing children’s rights and for leading such a timely and impactful initiative on education reform.
