Pakistan, Norway Agree to Strengthen People-to-People Ties

Islamabad (GNP): Pakistan and Norway have agreed to deepen people-to-people connections between the two countries, following delegation-level talks held at the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide arrived in Islamabad on an official visit and was received at the airport by Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe Ambassador Ayesha Ali. He later led talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides reviewed the full range of bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, climate change, maritime affairs, and education. They acknowledged the important role played by the Pakistani community in Norway and agreed to work toward strengthening ties between the two peoples.

Both officials expressed satisfaction with the warm state of Pakistan-Norway relations and agreed to further expand cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Dar said Pakistan values its friendship with Norway and expressed interest in further developing the relationship, noting that several Norwegian companies operate in Pakistan and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The two sides also held detailed discussions on regional and international issues of mutual concern. Eide commended Pakistan’s constructive role during the recent Iran-US conflict, specifically acknowledging the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in helping manage the situation.

They also held in depth discussions on regional and international developments of mutual interest. The Norwegian Foreign Minister commended Pakistan’s important and constructive role during the recent Iran-US conflict, including the leadership and contributions of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
