NDMA issues nationwide alert for widespread rainfall

Islamabad (GNP): NDMA has issued an alert for widespread rainfall across the country from today till Friday.

A strong monsoon incursion interacting with an approaching westerly wave is expected to affect the catchments of all major rivers during 22–24 July 2026. Widespread rainfall, including isolated heavy falls, is expected over Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Balochistan and Punjab. This may trigger rapid rises in river flows, flash flooding in hill torrents and seasonal streams, and urban flooding in vulnerable cities.

  • Ghizer: Ghizer and Ishkoman Rivers
  • Hunza: Chapursan, Kilik, Shimshal, Khunjerab and Hunza Rivers
  • Nagar: Hispar River
  • Gilgit: Bagrot Gah
  • Diamer: Kiner Gah and Tato Gah
  • Ghanche: Saltoro, Shyok and Hushe Rivers
  • Shigar: Shigar and Dumordo Rivers
  • Astore: Astore River and Rupal Gah
  • Kharmang: Shingo River and local streams
  • Roundu: Localized nullahs and streams

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • Chitral: Lutkho and Mastuj Rivers
  • Malakand, Shangla and Battagram
  • Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur
  • Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Peshawar
  • Local streams, nullahs and hill torrents of Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Hangu, and North and South Waziristan

  • Streams, nullahs and hill torrents of Loralai, Killa Saifullah, Ziarat, Duki, Barkhan, Harnai, Sibi, Kachhi, Khuzdar, Lehri and Jhal Magsi

NDMA alert, VULNERABLE AREAS – URBAN FLOOD RISK

Punjab: Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Mianwali, Khushab, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Mardan

RIVER FLOW CONDITIONS — 22–24 JULY 2026

  • High Flood levels are expected in the *Chenab River at Marala and medium flood in the *Jhelum River upstream of Mangla*.
  • Medium to high Flood levels are also expected in associated nullahs of the Jhelum and Chenab basins, including Dora, Dotta, Dowara, Bhimber, Halsi, Aik and Palkhu.
  • Elevated flows are expected in Ravi basin nullahs, including Bein, Basantar, Deg and Sakki.
  • River Ravi at Balloki may attain Low Flood level during the next 24–48 hours.
  • Rising flows are expected in the Swat, Panjkora and Chitral Rivers.
  • Low to Medium Flood levels are also expected in the Kabul River and its associated tributaries.
