Islamabad(GNP): A new survey from Kaspersky shows that while travelers widely value AI tools for saving time and delivering personalized, budget-friendly recommendations, many remain cautious about the data security risks involved — a trend security experts view as encouraging.
According to the findings, time-saving and simplified trip preparation are the biggest draws of AI for travelers, cited by 73% of respondents. Roughly 65% said they use AI to research popular attractions and receive recommendations suited to their preferences, while 63% rely on it to find better deals, and 61% use it to surface information that would otherwise be difficult to track down.
Beyond route planning and research, AI tools are increasingly used to book hotels and tickets — tasks that typically require sharing personal information. However, the survey found that many travelers remain hesitant to hand over sensitive data to AI systems.
Nearly half of respondents (48%) said they view AI as a security risk and actively avoid sharing sensitive information with it. Combined with the 37% who aren’t overly concerned but still exercise caution, a total of 86% of AI users in travel planning report thinking about data security when using these tools. Only 14% said they feel completely confident sharing any information with AI.
Vladislav Tushkanov, Group Manager at Kaspersky’s AI Technology Research Center, said the survey results point to an encouraging level of caution among AI users, noting that a careful approach is important in any online interaction — especially where personal data is involved. He explained that conversations with AI tools aren’t immune to cyber threats, and that deals surfaced by chatbots can sometimes turn out to be scams. Rather than avoiding AI tools altogether, he recommended that users stay mindful, limit how much personal information they share, and think carefully about which tasks are appropriate to delegate to AI — allowing these tools to remain useful and safe assistants.
Kaspersky’s Recommendations for Safer AI Use
Kaspersky advises against sharing sensitive details such as ID numbers, home addresses, or passwords with AI assistants, and recommends being selective about which platforms such information is ever uploaded to. Users are also encouraged to verify any links or emails suggested by AI tools and to use trusted security software — such as Kaspersky Premium — to screen URLs, block suspicious sites, and secure online payments.
For travelers relying on AI as their primary travel assistant, Kaspersky suggests ensuring reliable internet access while abroad, including the option of using an eSIM for consistent mobile data connectivity.
