PUC Hails Pakistan's Role in Iran-US Peace Agreement

Islamabad (GNP): Prime Minister’s Coordinator and Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, has warmly praised Pakistan’s contribution to bringing about the Iran-United States peace agreement, asserting that the diplomatic breakthrough has significantly elevated Pakistan’s standing on the world stage as a champion of peace and international stability.

In a formal statement, Ashrafi credited the agreement — announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to the sustained and tireless diplomatic exertions of Pakistan’s leadership over an extended period. He said that through divine grace, Pakistan had achieved a level of international recognition and respect that had eluded the country throughout its 78-year history, with the nation now widely regarded across the globe as a genuine center of peace-building and security.

The PUC Chairman expressed his hope that the momentum generated by this peace accord would extend beyond the immediate parties and help illuminate a path toward justice and dignity for the peoples of Palestine and Kashmir, whose legitimate rights and aspirations he said deserved equal international attention and support.

In a significant announcement, Ashrafi revealed that the Pakistan Ulema Council has called upon Muslims across Pakistan and within Pakistani communities worldwide to observe Friday, June 19, as a “Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer” — a collective expression of gratitude for the peace agreement and for Pakistan’s role in achieving this historic diplomatic milestone.

Ashrafi extended heartfelt thanks to Pakistan’s brotherly nations that stood alongside the effort, offering special recognition to Saudi Arabia and its leadership — particularly Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud — as well as to Qatar and Türkiye for their invaluable support and contributions to the broader peace-building process.

He also conveyed appreciation to the leaderships of both Iran and the United States for placing their confidence in Pakistan’s capacity to serve as an effective and credible mediator between the two sides.

Closing his remarks, Ashrafi expressed unwavering confidence that Pakistan would continue on its forward trajectory, and that the country’s commitment to peace would serve as a foundation for greater regional stability, the advancement of justice, and the ultimate realization of the rights of oppressed peoples — including those of Palestine and Kashmir. He offered prayers for Pakistan’s continued progress and for the establishment of enduring peace across the world.
