SAARC firms urged to act with governments, Dhakal

SAARC CCI President Chandi Raj Dhakal visits FPCCI Secretariat

ISLAMABAD (GNP ): – SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Chandi Raj Dhakal visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Secretariat, where he met FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh.

During the meeting, Chandi Raj Dhakal congratulated Atif Ikram Sheikh on being elected  Vice President of SAARC Chamber and expressed best wishes for him.

Both leaders held detailed discussions on organizational matters, promotion of regional trade, and measures to make business activities in the SAARC region more effective. On the occasion, it was agreed that the SAARC business organization would be made more active to promote economic cooperation among member states.

Various proposals regarding improvement of air and land connectivity among SAARC member states were also considered during the meeting, to further facilitate trade and transportation in the region.

Former Federation President Zubair Ahmed Malik, Vice President Tariq Jadoon, newly elected members of SAARC-CCI general assembly,Chairman Capital Office Karim Aziz Malik, and Chairman Coordination Malik Sohail were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Atif Ikram Sheikh said member countries will have to set aside differences and focus on mutual cooperation. He said Pakistan and other SAARC countries must work together for the development of the region so that the direct benefit reaches the common man. According to him, there are countless opportunities for joint development and progress in the SAARC region which must be availed.

Chandi Raj Dhakal said Pakistan is an important member country of SAARC and has played a significant role in the establishment and stability of the organization. He stressed that the SAARC business community will have to take practical steps together with governments.

He further said the establishment of SAARC House in Pakistan is a shared responsibility of all member states, which will further strengthen organizational links and cooperation. He also emphasized that several measures for confidence-building among member states are under consideration, which will be jointly ensured for implementation.
