Brunei High Commission marks 42nd National Day

Islamabad (GNP) : In a vibrant display of diplomacy and cultural camaraderie, the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, Kamal Ahmed, hosted a distinguished reception at the Brunei High Commission in Islamabad to mark the 42nd National Day, coinciding with a special Ramadan Iftar dinner.

The evening brought together leading diplomats, community figures, and sports representatives in an atmosphere that celebrated both national pride and inter-faith fellowship.

Addressing the gathering, High Commissioner Ahmed emphasized the historical and contemporary significance of Brunei’s National Day, observed annually on 23 February to commemorate the country’s independence, and underscored the enduring spirit of unity that has guided the nation’s development.

Highlighting the deep-rooted bond between Brunei and Pakistan, the High Commissioner reaffirmed the shared values that link the two Muslim-majority nations: mutual respect, cultural affinity, and a common commitment to peace and prosperity.

He urged enhanced people-to-people exchanges, particularly in cultural, educational, and community spheres, to deepen bilateral engagement and open up opportunities in sectors like trade and education.

A standout moment of the evening was High Commissioner Ahmed’s personal welcome to members of the Rising Stars Hockey Club, not only an emblem of sporting achievement but also a testament to using sports as a bridge for diplomacy.

As an active player himself, he greeted team members and officials alike, acknowledging their role in fostering goodwill and collaborative spirit through athletics.

The event also drew enthusiastic participation from heads of missions of ASEAN countries and former Pakistani ambassadors to Brunei, reflecting the strong and sustained diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Bandar Seri Begawan.

The combined National Day reception and Iftar dinner — featuring traditional Bruneian hospitality alongside Ramadan fast-breaking delicacies — symbolized unity in faith and friendship.

As Brunei marks its 42nd National Day this year, the Islamabad gathering stood out as a vivid reaffirmation of Pakistan-Brunei partnership, offering a platform for renewed dialogue and collaborative prospects in sports, culture, and diplomacy.
