Unlocking youth potential is key to Pakistan’s future, Jarral

Campaignistan, StreamWorks, Air University Incubation Center, mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026 with a landmark event in Islamabad

Islamabad–  International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2026 was celebrated with an inspiring event titled Women & Girls in STEAM: Bridging Classrooms, Careers & Industry, jointly organised by Campaignistan and StreamWorks in collaboration with the Air University Incubation Center.

Aligned with this year’s global theme – “From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap” – the event brought together students, educators, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals to highlight the importance of empowering women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Discussions focused on strengthening the link between academic learning and real-world career opportunities, promoting mentorship, and encouraging women-led innovation and entrepreneurship.

Globally, women still represent less than one-third of all researchers. In Pakistan, the gap is even wider, making targeted efforts to build inclusive pathways from classrooms to careers all the more urgent. Speakers at the event emphasized the need to create these pathways, ensuring that young women are equipped with the skills, exposure, and support to thrive in emerging fields.

Speaking on the occasion, Farhad Jarral, CEO of Campaignistan, said: “The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is not just a date on the calendar – it is a call to action. At Campaignistan, we have always believed that Pakistan’s future depends on unlocking the full potential of its youth, and that means ensuring girls and women are not spectators but leaders in the STEAM revolution. From organising science festivals to working with partners on innovation labs in Islamabad, we have seen first-hand the extraordinary talent that emerges when young women are given the platform and the permission to dream big. Bridging the gender gap in STEAM is not charity – it is strategy. Nations that invest in their women don’t just grow; they leap forward.”

Rabia Farhan, Vice President Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IWCCI), graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. She emphasized the need for women and girls’ empowerment, stating: “When women rise, the whole nation rises,” reiterating that investing in women’s education and opportunities is key to driving national progress and prosperity.

Sadaf Asim Abbasi, Chairperson Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI), credited her success to the support system around her, stating: “My father, husband, and brother are all males, and I am proud of the support they have given me,” showcasing the importance of family support in empowering women leaders.

Air Cdre. (Retd.) Fawad Zahir, Director ORIC, Air University, emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment, saying: “My inspirations are my daughters,” and acknowledged the contributions of women working at Air University, highlighting their crucial role in shaping the institution’s success.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to foster greater participation of women and girls in STEAM and to build a more inclusive and innovation-driven future for Pakistan.
