
Islamabad : H.E. Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan met with Dr. Mohammad Adnan, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Commerce to exchange views on the progress of Thailand-Pakistan FTA.
Key discussion points:
Saw the potential of increasing two-way trade with Thailand targeting to increase from the current value of 1.1 billion USD to 2.2 billion USD in the coming years;
Thailand-Pakistan Agreed to resume FTA negotiation at the earliest after a long pause for many years.
Did not object to the Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) or Early Harvest Program, as proposed by Pakistan, on the goods that both sides can agree on and then expand to full-fledged FTA at a later stage. Ambassador pleased that Pakistan’s private sectors and major Chambers of Commerce and Industries strongly support the Thailand-Pakistan FTA. Both sides emphasized on the quick resumption of negotiations at the earliest which would open up new avenues of business opportunities for both countries’ private sectors and consumers.
