Islamabad : MNA Riaz Fatyana raised a critical environmental issue in the National Assembly of Pakistan through a Calling Attention Notice, regarding the cutting of 29,000 green trees in Islamabad under the pretext of removing Paper Mulberry trees. During the session, Riaz Fatyana questioned the Minister of State for Interior on key points: whether a proper tree inventory was conducted; if the Paper Mulberry trees were officially identified and marked; who authorized the large-scale tree cutting; whether an NOC was obtained from the Ministry of Climate Change; and why environmental laws such as the Cutting of Trees (Prohibition) Act 1992, PEPA 1997, and Islamabad Preservation of Landscape laws were allegedly violated. The matter has now been referred to the National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) on Climate Change. This development raises serious concerns about the future of Clean & Green Islamabad, with fears that the capital may follow the path of Lahore, now ranked among the world’s most polluted cities. Environmental accountability.
