Govt drafting bill to formalize council’s legal status, Minister Hajj

Islamabad : Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, chaired a significant meeting of Ulema and Mashaikh, where he emphasized the government’s commitment to granting constitutional and legal status to the Ulema and Mashaikh Council, along with expanding its scope and effectiveness.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister Sardar Yousaf stated that the government is working on a draft bill to formalize the council’s legal status, and input from religious scholars is essential for this initiative. He reiterated that the objective is not only to establish the council but to make it a strong and functional institution.

He further stressed the importance of making the Holy Quran’s translation compulsory in education, providing an authenticated digital version of the Quran, and strengthening the role of the Ulema and Mashaikh Council. “Such steps are necessary to safeguard the fundamental beliefs of our religion and protect Islamic unity,” the minister said.

Sardar Muhammad Yousaf also highlighted the ministry’s achievement of translating the Holy Quran into English, noting that this step will particularly benefit the younger generation. On this occasion, he officially launched the Ministry’s newly developed Quran App, aimed at facilitating access to authentic Quranic texts.

During his address, the minister lauded the achievements of Pakistan’s armed forces, stating that they had given a strong and effective response to the enemy. “I was in Saudi Arabia at the time, and people there—along with many from around the world—congratulated us on this remarkable success,” he shared. He extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, the Chief of Army Staff, Air Chief, and Naval Chief, and paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.

Minister Sardar Yousaf urged religious scholars to use their seminaries and teachings to strengthen the spirit of national unity. He stressed the need to avoid all actions that promote hatred, division, and conflict.

Concluding his speech, he affirmed that the government is committed to transforming Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state that ensures peace and prosperity for followers of all religions.
