AIOU Launches Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2026

Islamabad (GNP )  : Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced the launch of a nationwide tree plantation campaign through its regional offices under the “Green Pakistan Initiative.”

Vice Chancellor, Prof, Dr. Nasir Mahmood formally inaugurated the Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2026. On this occasion, he stated that this initiative is highly significant for environmental improvement in the country and for addressing the impacts of climate change.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the parking area near Gate No. 1 of the university. Vice Chancellor, Prof, Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Director Administration and Coordination, Prof. Dr. Syed Muhammad Aamir Shah, Registrar, Raja Umar Younis, Director General Regional Services, Dr. Malik Tauqeer Ahmed Khan, Director International Office, Dr. Zahid Majeed, Additional Director IT, Arshad Manzoor, Controller of Examinations, Muhammad Zahid Akhtar Khaki along with other faculty members and principal officers planted saplings to formally commence the 2026 plantation campaign.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that planting trees is essential for national development and environmental protection and the university is taking all possible measures to achieve this goal. He further stated that Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change and the youth of Pakistan can play a vital role in safeguarding the country from this threat by actively participating in plantation drives.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor and other participants offered prayers for the safety and progress of the country.
Earlier, Horticulture Officer Wajeeh-ul-Hasan briefed the Vice Chancellor about the 2026 plantation campaign, stating that 200 saplings are planted annually during both planting seasons at the main campus. This year, in addition to shade trees, flowering plants are also being planted to further enhance the beauty of the campus.
