Russian Embassy Observes Defender of the Fatherland Day in Islamabad
Islamabad (GNP) :- Embassy of Russia in Pakistan hosted a commemorative event on Defender of the Fatherland Day, a significant Russian national holiday honoring the country’s military heritage and armed forces.
Russian mission welcomed senior officials, diplomats and military representatives at a reception and formal ceremony marking the occasion; which dates back to the establishment of the Soviet Red Army in 1918.

The ceremony was also attended by Air Marshal Shakil Ghazanfar, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force, as chief guest, along with envoys from Iran, Uzbekistan, and other diplomatic representatives.
Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev emphasized that the unity between the nation’s armed forces and its people is central to the survival and future of Russia.
Drawing on centuries of historical milestones, from medieval leaders like Alexander Nevsky to the Soviet triumph in the Great Patriotic War, Khorev framed the day as a reminder of collective resilience in the face of external challenges.

“Although eras, state names, and the structure of the armed forces have changed, the readiness of the defenders of the Fatherland to protect their country’s sovereignty and security has remained the same,” he said, acknowledging both historical and contemporary security concerns.
The ambassador also reiterated Moscow’s narrative regarding ongoing geopolitical tensions, asserting that modern Russian forces continue to protect the state’s interests and independence under pressure from what he described as efforts by the “collective West” to inflict strategic setbacks. He expressed confidence in the achievement of Russia’s objectives in its current military engagements.
The event reinforced mutual respect for military service and showcased the continuity of diplomatic dialogue between Pakistan and Russia. A ceremonial cake cutting at the event further signaled cordial defense ties between Pakistan and Russia. (GNP)
