US envoy launches ‘Let Freedom Ring’ initiative

Islamabad – U.S. Mission to Pakistan officially launched its Freedom 250 Liberty Bell initiative, themed “Let Freedom Ring,” with an unveiling ceremony at Lincoln Corner.

Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker unveiled a full-sized replica of the iconic Liberty Bell, launching a series of events to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence and honor the enduring role of diplomacy in shaping our nation’s journey and global impact.

The Liberty Bell, housed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is one of the most enduring symbols of American freedom and democracy.  Cast in 1752, the bell is renowned for its historic role in the American Revolution.  It rang to mark significant milestones, including the signing of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.  Today, the Liberty Bell stands as a powerful reminder of the United States’ founding ideals of freedom, justice, and equality.

Chargé Baker reflected on the Liberty Bell’s legacy and its connection to pivotal moments in U.S. history, including the abolition of slavery.  “The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence.  It is fitting that we are standing inside the Lincoln Corner, a place that promotes learning about America and American values, including freedom of speech,” said Chargé Baker.  She also highlighted the contributions of American diplomats from Philadelphia, underscoring the personal connections that strengthen the U.S.-Pakistan relationship.

As part of the “Let Freedom Ring” initiative, 15 Liberty Bell replicas will be distributed to Lincoln Corners across Pakistan.  Local artists and student volunteers will be invited to paint the bells according to the theme “What Freedom Means to Me.”

These creative interpretations will celebrate the wide range of perspectives on freedom and will be displayed at U.S. Independence Day celebrations in Pakistan this summer.  The decorated bells will also be featured in a commemorative video to be shared by the U.S. Embassy, further amplifying the voices and talents of Pakistanis.
