Mobile, Electronic device manufacturing Policy ready to presented PM, Haroon

Islamabad : Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM), Haroon Akhtar Khan, chaired a high-level meeting on the Mobile and Electronic Device Manufacturing Policy, which was attended by Secretary Industries and Production Saif Anjum, Chief Executive Officer Engineering Development Board (EDB) Hammad Mansoor, and representatives of mobile phone manufacturers. During the meeting, a detailed briefing was given on the Mobile and Electronic Device Manufacturing Policy for the period 2026–2033. SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan stated that the policy has been formulated after extensive consultations with all stakeholders and covers mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices, making it a comprehensive and broad-based policy. He added that the policy represents a major shift for Pakistan from simple assembly operations towards full-scale manufacturing and is essential for the promotion of manufacturing and exports in the country. Under the policy, international brands will be encouraged to manufacture in Pakistan, while local brands will also be empowered to expand their manufacturing capabilities. He further stated that the policy clearly defines phase-wise manufacturing targets and timelines, and that the transition from assembling to manufacturing is at Pakistan’s doorstep, with the country’s economic progress closely linked to this shift. According to the Engineering Development Board, the policy aims to achieve 50 percent localization in mobile phones by 2033. The policy also sets a target of 70 percent e-waste recovery through organized systems, which will have a positive impact on the environment. Under the policy, 50,000 skilled workers will be developed, including 15,000 specialized professionals. SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan informed that the Mobile and Electronic Device Manufacturing Policy will be presented to the Prime Minister in the near future.
