Tribal Elders, Civil Society, Lawyers and Students meets Deputy Chairman

Detailed Discussion on Issues Faced by Underdeveloped Regions

Islamabad: Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Senator Syedal Khan, held a meeting at Parliament House with delegations comprising tribal elders, tribal chiefs, representatives of civil society, lawyers, students and notables from various parts of the country. During the meeting, the delegations briefed the Deputy Chairman in detail about the serious challenges faced by people living in underdeveloped regions, particularly in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rural Sindh and southern Punjab.
The participants highlighted key issues including problems in the agriculture sector, challenges related to mines and minerals, poor communication infrastructure, non-availability of gas in extremely cold areas, and the ongoing electricity crisis. Tribal elders stated that these issues have made daily life extremely difficult for the local population and stressed the need for immediate and sustainable solutions.
The delegations also emphasized the promotion of trade and investment, calling for greater public relief and the removal of hurdles on a priority basis. They underscored the importance of special measures for industrial development, establishment of industries, and promotion of product marketing as essential steps to generate employment opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chairman Senate Senator Syedal Khan said that the present government, in collaboration with its coalition partners, is taking serious and practical steps for the development of the entire country, with special focus on Balochistan. He stated that effective strategies are being implemented to address the long-standing issues of Balochistan and other underdeveloped areas.
He further said that the government has a clear policy and a strong security strategy to ensure peace and stability in Balochistan, the positive outcomes of which are already evident. Improved security, he noted, is not only ensuring public safety but is also facilitating trade, investment and economic activities.
The Deputy Chairman added that concrete steps are being taken to improve the standard of living of the people through transparent and effective utilization of provincial resources and mineral wealth, and encouraging results have begun to emerge.
Regarding gas supply, Senator Syedal Khan informed that in view of recent gas-related issues in Balochistan, the Managing Director of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) was summoned to Parliament House and issued clear instructions to ensure uninterrupted gas supply in Quetta, its surrounding areas and other extremely cold regions. He added that the MD SSGCL has assured improvement in gas supply and has also committed to visiting the concerned areas to address public complaints.
The Deputy Chairman Senate urged tribal elders, youth and the general public to cooperate with the government and utilize their abilities in the national interest. He said that only through collective efforts can Pakistan move forward on the path of progress.
Highlighting the importance of women’s employment, he said the current government, along with its allies, is taking steps to equip women with skills, provide them with dignified employment and ensure their economic empowerment. He noted that women’s participation in the workforce not only reduces household hardships but also contributes to overall economic stability.
Senator Syedal Khan further stated that nearly 60 percent of Pakistan’s population consists of youth, who are a valuable national asset. He urged young people to play an active role in the country’s development and support the government by prioritizing national interests.
