
Quetta , The convocation of Allama Iqbal Open University’s Balochistan Chapter was held in Quetta. Balochistan’s Provincial Minister for Education, Rahila Hameed Khan Durrani, was the chief guest, while the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, hosted the ceremony.
Addressing the audience, Rahila Hameed Durrani said that Open University is providing equal and quality education not only in urban areas but also in the remote regions of the country, which is commendable. She said that providing quality education to students is among the top priorities of the government. Congratulating the successful graduates, she said that due to its distance learning system, AIOU holds a unique place among prominent universities around the world.
The Minister further said that it is encouraging to see that the Open University, by effectively utilizing modern digital information technology, is providing academic opportunities not only to students across Pakistan but also to overseas Pakistanis.
The ceremony was attended by social and political figures, secretaries, education experts, and parents.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, expressed pride and happiness over the achievements of the students and said that there is hardly a home in Pakistan where a student of Allama Iqbal Open University is not present. He said the university takes great pride in its graduates who are serving in key positions across various national institutions.
Highlighting the university’s social contributions, he said that AIOU provides free education to transgender persons, prisoners, and students with disabilities. He added that students of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the merged tribal districts receive free matric education. He also mentioned that in the event of any natural disaster, the university stands firmly with its Baloch students and provides them with special fee concessions.
Dr. Nasir Mahmood said that AIOU students are in no way lesser than students of any other university. Our students have won dozens of awards in national and international competitions, which is proof of our academic excellence.
The Provincial Education Minister and the Vice Chancellor distributed degrees among the graduates, while those who secured top positions were awarded medals.
