Dutch envoy reaffirms commitment to stronger cooperation with Pakistan

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Calls on Federal Minister for Human Rights

Islamabad : Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Robert-Jan Siegert, paid a courtesy call on the Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and exchanging views on ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting and protecting human rights in Pakistan.
The Federal Minister welcomed the Ambassador and appreciated the Netherlands’ continued engagement and support for Pakistan’s human rights priorities. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing equality, inclusion, and the welfare of all citizens.


The Ambassador acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in implementing its human rights agenda and commended the government’s commitment to constitutional guarantees, including freedom of religion and belief. The Minister highlighted Pakistan’s diverse and inclusive society, where all religious communities enjoy constitutional protection. He also briefed the Ambassador on recent legislative advancements, including the introduction of the National Commission for Minorities Bill, a key initiative to safeguard minority rights, promote interfaith harmony, and ensure the full participation of minority communities in national development.
The Minister also outlined progress under the National Action Plan on Human Rights, covering policy reforms, improved access to justice, implementation of international commitments, and the strengthening of human rights institutions. He highlighted the important role of independent bodies such as the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR), National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), and National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC). Efforts to protect vulnerable groups such as women, children, senior citizens, transgender persons, and persons with disabilities were also discussed.


Both sides expressed their intention to maintain close coordination and constructive dialogue to further advance the promotion and protection of human rights in Pakistan. The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of their commitment to deeper collaboration on shared priorities.
