Education central to growth and prosperity of any nation, Gilani

MULTAN: Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that education plays the most vital role in shaping human societies. He stressed that education is a fundamental need for every individual — irrespective of wealth, gender or social background.

Speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony held at Roots Millennium School, Gilani said that the purpose of education is not merely to obtain degrees from schools, colleges or universities, but to prepare responsible citizens who respect social values and traditions. “Education refines a person’s character,” he remarked.

Gilani said Multan, known as the city of saints, holds a special place in his heart, adding that he had always worked for the city’s development. He highlighted various development and educational projects completed across Multan and the wider South Punjab region, noting that these initiatives continue to benefit the local population. He vowed to extend every possible support for the advancement of education and further development in the region.

The Senate chairman recalled that during his tenure as prime minister, he had awarded 100 scholarships to Bahauddin Zakariya University, each worth Rs100 million. Many of the scholarship recipients, he said, were now serving the country in important fields. He added that the Gilani Law College was currently offering PhD and LLM programmes, with ten PhD faculty members providing high-quality education. He said he had also requested the law minister to approve 50 additional seats at the college to further promote legal education.

Gilani praised the RMS school for offering state-of-the-art education with modern facilities, calling it a positive step for future generations.

The event was attended by MNA Syed Ali Qasim Gilani, CEO Roots Millennium Schools Multan Faisal Mushtaq, Director Sabina Zakir, former ambassador Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi, Saira Khakwani, teachers, students and a large number of parents.
