
Islamabad : Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti Highlights CPSP’s Leadership in Medical Education, Healthcare Access, and Transparent Examination Standards.
Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, delivered the keynote address at the 58th Convocation of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). The ceremony which was also graced by Lieutenant General (R) Nigar Johar as Chief Guest, celebrated the achievements of 700 FCPS and MCPS graduates.
In his address, Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti congratulated the new specialists, praising their dedication, perseverance, and courage. He also extended his congratulations to the President of CPSP, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, and the Council members, appreciating the invitation to witness the memorable and well-organized convocation.
He commended CPSP for its continuous efforts in promoting high-quality medical education and strengthening healthcare service delivery in Pakistan. Highlighting the institution’s leadership role, he expressed hope that CPSP would continue to make significant contributions toward higher medical education and the provision of quality service to humanity.
Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti also emphasized the role of the Standing Committee, stating it is fully prepared to support health-related initiatives and policies aimed at improving the healthcare sector.
Speaking on healthcare access, he noted that the Government of Pakistan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, has demonstrated its commitment to development in all sectors, particularly healthcare. Recognizing that the majority of Pakistan’s population resides in rural areas, he stressed that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure healthcare facilities are available close to their communities. He highlighted that efforts are being made to provide comparable healthcare services in both urban and rural areas, with upgradation of District and Tehsil hospitals continuing as part of this policy. Senator Chishti also appreciated CPSP’s contributions toward these healthcare initiatives.
On the subject of medical entrance exams, he highlighted his focus on making the MDCAT an excellent examination, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness. He noted that this year, there were no media reports of paper leaks, reflecting six months of dedicated effort to improve the exam process.
“My focus remains on ensuring that the MDCAT sets the highest standard for entrance testing in the country,” he said.
Senator Chishti further underscored the importance of a healthy and educated society, stating that such an environment is essential for national progress and development. He urged the medical community to continue fostering talent and promoting the growth of professionals who can contribute to Pakistan’s health and education sectors.
“Our young doctors have immense courage and potential. We must continue to promote Pakistani talent and ensure that education and health remain pillars of our national progress,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Senator Amir Walliuddin Chishti again commended CPSP’s work in advancing medical education and healthcare services and expressed confidence that the new specialists would continue to contribute meaningfully to improving the nation’s health system.
