Speaker NA urges Afghan govt to act against terrorist groups

Islamabad : National Assembly of Pakistan hosted a Parliamentary Panel Discussion as part of the ongoing Third Trilateral Speakers’ Conference of Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan in Islamabad.
The session focused on “Climate Change, Disaster Resilience, and Sustainable Development” along with “Defending Territorial Integrity & Sovereignty: Solidarity Against External Threat” and witnessed active participation from parliamentary delegates of all three brotherly nations.

Convener of the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs & Convenor of Pak-Turkiye Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), Shaista Pervaiz Malik, chaired the panel discussion and in her welcome address she warmly welcomed the delegations of Türkiye and Azerbaijan to Pakistan, emphasizing that climate change is not a challenge confined to one country but a shared global crisis.

She highlighted that the devastating floods of 2022 inflicted severe economic losses on Pakistan, yet the nation emerged stronger through collective resilience and international engagement. She called for enhanced technology exchange, promotion of green infrastructure, and regional cooperation to build sustainable and disaster-resilient societies.

Shaista Pervaiz further noted that no country can confront natural disasters alone, stressing that public representatives have a collective responsibility to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. She expressed confidence that green energy initiatives and electric transport systems could serve as game-changers for sustainable progress.

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology, Fatima Yildirim, proposed the establishment of a Regional Parliamentary Forum on Green Energy, emphasizing the importance of knowledge exchange and joint climate action. She reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation with Pakistan and Türkiye and highlighted her country’s investments in smart villages, green transition, and disaster preparedness.

Members of the Turkish delegation expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s warm hospitality and commended Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for successfully hosting the third trilateral meeting. He also thanked the people and government of Pakistan for their assistance during the tragic earthquakes in Türkiye.

Members of the Turkish Delegation reaffirmed Türkiye’s solidarity with Pakistan during the 2022 floods and paid tribute to the martyrs of Pakistan’s security forces who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism. He termed terrorism a global menace requiring a collective and coordinated response, and lauded the growing defence partnership among Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, particularly through initiatives such as the “Three Brothers Exercise.”

Expressing unwavering support for Pakistan’s stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, the Turkish Parliamentary Delegation underscored that it must be resolved in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. He praised Pakistan’s patience and prudence in handling recent regional tensions, and described the Islamabad Declaration as a testament to the three nations’ unity for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Member of the Turkish Delegation, Ali Sahin, poignantly remarked that “the tears of Kashmiri mothers are the same as those of Turkish mothers”, underlining the shared pain and historical bonds between the peoples of Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.

From Pakistan’s side, Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Convener of the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, welcomed the fraternal delegations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian and Kashmiri causes. He lauded Azerbaijan’s determination in reclaiming its territories and Türkiye’s efforts to safeguard its borders, describing both as inspirations of resilience and unity.

Syed Raza Ali Gillani paid rich tribute to the Armed Forces of Pakistan for their successful Operation Banyan-ul-Marsus and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Palestine, who continue to face Israeli aggression with courage and steadfastness.

He stated that Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, when speaking with one voice, send a powerful message of unity to the world, adding that this trilateral conference will be remembered as a symbol of solidarity with the people of Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir.

The Azerbaijani delegation was composed of Fatima Yildirim, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, along with  Kamaluddin Gafarova,  Anar Malladov, Elshan Musawev, and Arzu Naghiyev

The Turkish delegation included  Abdul Qadir Ozel, Member of the Grand National Assembly from Hatay, Abdul Hameed Gul, and Ali Sahin, who actively contributed to the proceedings of the conference and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to regional solidarity and cooperation.
