
Ambassador Misbah Khar Discusses Regional Cooperation and Connectivity with Afghan Envoy Ahead of Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference
Islamabad :- Ambassador Misbah Khar, Special Envoy for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), called on Sardar Ahmad Shakib, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad to discuss prospects for collaboration in connection with the forthcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.
Ambassador Khar briefed the Afghan Ambassador on the objectives and framework of the ISC, an initiative aimed at promoting dialogue and cooperation among parliaments to advance peace, connectivity, and sustainable development. She underscored that the ISC represents a collective effort to build understanding and trust through parliamentary diplomacy, encouraging nations to work together on shared challenges and opportunities.
The Special Envoy reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining close and constructive relations with Afghanistan and emphasized that Kabul’s participation in the ISC would strengthen regional dialogue and contribute to stability and development in the broader South and Central Asian region.
Ambassador Shakib appreciated the comprehensive briefing and commended Pakistan’s leadership in initiating the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference as a timely step toward promoting mutual understanding and regional cooperation through legislative channels. He expressed Afghanistan’s readiness to engage constructively in parliamentary initiatives that foster peace and development.
Ambassador Khar apprised the Afghan Ambassador that the Honourable Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has been unanimously elected as the founding President of the ISC, reflecting international confidence in Pakistan’s leadership in advancing parliamentary diplomacy at the global level. She extended a formal invitation to the Afghan Parliament to participate in the inaugural ISC session, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on 11 and 12 November 2025 under the theme “Peace, Development, Stability and Security.”
The meeting concluded with expressions of goodwill and a shared resolve to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation through sustained parliamentary engagement and dialogue.
