Canada, Pakistan reaffirmed commitment to collaboration in climate resilience

Federal Minister Dr. Musadik Malik Meets Luke Mayers, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian High Commission

Islamabad  :-  Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, held a meeting with Luke Mayers, Chargé d’Affaires of the Canadian High Commission, to discuss the ongoing flood situation in Pakistan and potential areas of bilateral cooperation.

Luke Mayers expressed deep empathy and solidarity with the people of Pakistan over the loss of lives, and destruction caused by the recent floods.

Dr. Musadik Malik apprised Mayers that nearly 3.6 million people have been displaced. He emphasized that while relief operations are ongoing and showing progress, the real challenge lies ahead, addressing the widespread devastation that will emerge once floodwaters recede.  The two sides also discussed the impact of floods on food security, particularly regarding food regulations, trade opportunities, and the use of GMO seeds to strengthen agricultural resilience.

Furthermore, Dr. Malik highlighted the Ministry’s focus on digitizing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure transparency in environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in climate resilience, food security, and sustainable development, expressing intent to explore avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
