
AVAZA : A high-level bilateral meeting took place in Awaza city of Turkmenistan between the higher officials of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Turkmenistan to explore cooperation in the maritime sector.
The bilateral meeting, that held on the sidelines of the UN LDC3 conference, was led by Dr. Alemu Sime, Minister of Transport and Logistics from Ethiopia while the Turkmenistan side was headed by Azat Shanazarov, Head of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport.
Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador of Ethiopia to Turkmenistan, with residence in Islamabad was also present in the meeting.
The focus of the discussions was cooperation in maritime transportation and logistics. Both sides agreed to an exchange of delegations to promote capacity building and knowledge sharing within the maritime sector.
Honorable Minister Dr. Alemu Sime, highlighted the initiatives of the Government of Ethiopia, led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, for sustainable economic development in the country that foster regional integration as well.
The Honorable Minister said the economy is booming creating numerous investment opportunities in various sectors including maritime transportation and logistics.
Dr. Alemu Sime, on the occasion, highlighted Ethiopia’s peaceful and diplomatic pursuits for access to sea which will eventually strengthen the economic development across the region.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker said the aspirations of the people of Ethiopia for access to sea are just, and absolutely in accordance with the international law.
Azat Shanazarov, Head of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport, appreciated the outcomes of homegrown economic reforms of Ethiopia that charted Ethiopia on the course of progress and development.
The Head of the State Service of Maritime expressed keen interest in exchange of knowledge and expertise especially in maritime sector for further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
