Police Martyrs Day honors the sacrifices of brave officers, Shigri

Islamabad : Yaum-e-Shuhada-e-Police (Police Martyrs Day) was observed with solemnity and deep respect. A tribute-paying ceremony was held at the National Police Bureau (NPB), in collaboration with the Association of Former Inspectors General of Police (AFIGP).
Afzal Ali Shigri, PSP (Retd.), Former Inspector General of Police and President AFIGP, paid glowing tributes to the Police Shuhada of Pakistan. The ceremony featured a police guard of honour, salute, and the laying of floral wreaths at the Shuhada Yadgar by President AFIGP, Dr. Syed Kaleem Imam, PSP, and Capt. (Rtd.) Atta Muhammad, PSP/DIG, Director NPB. Members of civil society, university students, the chamber of commerce, newly recruited DSPs from Sindh, former IGPs, serving police officers in large numbers, and families of the martyrs attended to witness their loved ones being honoured.
The proceedings included Fateha Khawani, salami by FC officers, a slide show, and reflections from participants, paying heartfelt tribute to the martyrs’ ultimate sacrifice and preserving their enduring legacy.
Speaking on the occasion, Shigri noted that thousands of police officers have laid down their lives and many more have been injured while combating terrorism and organized crime so that the people of Pakistan may live in peace. He emphasized that these martyrs went beyond the call of duty, and their remembrance not only recognizes their heroism but also serves as a source of inspiration for their colleagues to strive for excellence and never settle for second best.
Across the country, police organizations observed “Police Shuhada Day” with traditional devotion. Special ceremonies were held at police lines and memorials nationwide, where armed squads saluted and paid homage to the eternal sacrifices of the martyrs.

Since the creation of Pakistan, more than 8,300 police officers have embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. Their courage, commitment, and sacrifice remain a guiding light and a source of pride for the entire nation.
