China’s BYD to start EV assembly in Pakistan by 2026

Islamabad : Chinese EV maker BYD plans to start assembling electric and hybrid vehicles in Pakistan by mid-2026.

According to company officials, the first locally assembled BYD car is expected to roll out between July and August 2026. A 25,000-unit capacity plant, currently under construction near Karachi, is part of a joint venture between BYD and Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of the Hub Power Company.

The move is aimed at tapping into Pakistan’s emerging EV market and benefiting from government-led incentives to promote environmentally friendly transportation.

Danish Khaliq, Vice President of Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan, stated that the plant will initially produce vehicles for the domestic market, with future potential for exports to regional right-hand drive countries. He added that BYD aims to capture a 30 to 35 percent share of Pakistan’s EV and plug-in hybrid vehicle segment, which is projected to grow significantly in 2025.
